Cubano Cigars history

From one generation to the next.

The Cubano story is a family lineage shaped by movement, perseverance, and the patient work of handcraft.

  1. Early 1800s

    Havana to Key West

    A craft crosses the water.

Pastora Rodriquez and Geronimo Falco moved from Havana, Cuba, to Key West, Florida. Geronimo was a skilled torcedor—a cigar roller—and passed the discipline of his craft to their four sons: Waukin Falco, born in 1834; Amelio Falco, born in 1841; Rafael Falco, born in 1842; and Antonio Falco.

  2. The next generation

    Key West, Florida

    Craftsmanship becomes inheritance.

Rafael Falco, our great-great-great-grandfather, married Valentine Falco-Rodriquez. Their son, Emilo Falco, learned cigar rolling from his father and carried the family craft forward. Emilo later married Julia Valdez, and together they had three children: Claudina, Barbara, and Mario Falco.

  3. Early 1900s

    Key West, Florida

    Two family histories meet.

Thomas Valdez arrived in Key West from Mexico as a merchant marine and married Claudina Falco, a Cuban–Key West native. Thomas and Claudina had four children: Eugene, Francisco, Pedro—known as Peter—and Julia Valdez Deane.

  4. A living legacy

    Florida to Georgia

    The story finds its founder.

Julia Valdez Deane had seven children. Her oldest, Thaddeus Thomas Dean Sr., married Diane Marie Butler. Among their three children was Thaddeus Thomas Dean Jr., founder and CEO of Cubano Cigars.

The founder

A tribute to Cuban cigar heritage.

Thaddeus Thomas Dean Jr. created Cubano Cigars as a lasting tribute to his family’s Cuban cigar heritage—one meant to be carried forward for generations to come.

His focus is to offer an exceptional selection of vintage Cuban and New World cigars while creating experiences rooted in culture, connection, and hospitality. Every blend is an invitation to pause and return, if only for a moment, to the cigar history of Key West.

“A legacy is not simply remembered. It is practiced, shared, and passed forward.”
